Toyota is likely to unveil the new Land Cruiser FJ, built on the budget-friendly IMV 0 platform, between April and June 2026.
Toyota’s new Land Cruiser FJ, which was earlier planned for a 2025 launch, is now reportedly set to begin global production in the second quarter of next year. Made to be a more affordable option in Toyota’s off-road lineup, the model will be built on the IMV 0 platform – a ladder-frame setup that also supports the tough Hilux Champ sold in Thailand.
Leaked design patents have confirmed the look of the much-awaited model, which matches the earlier concept and teaser image. The leaked images show a boxy front design, square-shaped wheel arches, and a flat roofline. It’s likely to be positioned below the Fortuner in Toyota’s SUV lineup, The Land Cruiser FJ is believed to be designed as a tribute to the older versions of the model.

The design features shown in the leaked patent drawings give more insight into the production version of the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ. At the front, a pair of C-shaped LED daytime running lights stand out, while the back features boxy tail lamps. The sides have upright body panels along with noticeable cladding. The high pillars and flat roof complete its classic look, reminding you of the older Land Cruiser models.

When it comes to the engine, initial reports suggest there will be a wide range of options available. Though exact details aren’t revealed yet, it’s believed the lineup might start with a 1.5-litre diesel and go up to the well-known 2.8-litre GD series mild-hybrid 48V diesel engine that Toyota already uses in many of its ladder-frame vehicles.
Some reports also suggest that Toyota may equip the new Land Cruiser FJ with a full-time four-wheel-drive setup. This system is likely to include a Torsen limited-slip differential along with multiple drive modes to help improve grip on different types of terrain. Regarding its future in India, nothing has been confirmed yet about Toyota planning to launch the FJ in the country.

Among these, the 2.7-litre 2TR-FE engine, which is known to produce 163 PS, seems to be the leading option for now. Even though no electric version has been officially announced, the chance of a battery-electric model in the future can’t be completely ruled out.
