The Kia Carens Clavis EV Taxi is all set to be released in a taxi-specific version. This move marks the South Korean company’s first step into India’s commercial vehicle segment.
After coming to India in 2019, Kia is now planning to grow its presence outside the usual passenger car segment, six years later. Besides focusing on private buyers, the company seems interested in entering the commercial vehicle sector as well.
A leaked document shared on Team-BHP reveals that Kia is preparing to introduce a taxi version of the Carens EV in the Indian market. The company plans to provide it in a specially designed HTM grade, which is different from the private registration variants like HTK+, HTX, HTX ER, and HTX+ ER trims.

Variant Type | Trim Grades Available |
---|---|
Private Registration Variant | HTK+, HTX, HTX ER, HTX+ ER |
Taxi Variant | Specially curated HTM grade |
It looks like the HTM grade is based on the HTK+ trim. Although designed for a taxi version, it will feature 16-inch black alloy wheels, Star Map connected LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and tail lamps, along with LED fog lamps. Kia will fit the Carens Clavis EV HTM with Ice Cube Multi Face Reflector-style LED headlamps, Active Air Flaps, a 25-litre front trunk (frunk), and automatic folding outside rear-view mirrors (ORVMs) too.
Inside the taxi version of the Carens Clavis EV, you’ll find it packed with plenty of important and high-quality features. The taxi model will include a 12.25-inch HD digital instrument cluster, a 12.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system, five USB Type-C ports, a six-speaker audio system, and seats covered in a mix of fabric and semi-leatherette, featuring a black and beige two-tone design.
Different from the passenger version, the taxi variant of the Carens Clavis EV will come with a GPS tracker that has six panic buttons and a speed limiter that stops the car from going faster than 80 km/h. The taxi version won’t have a child lock system for passenger safety. Kia plans to offer it only with the less powerful motor delivering 133 hp and 255 Nm of torque, along with the smaller NMC battery pack that has a lower energy capacity of 42 kWh. The Carens Clavis EV taxi is expected to offer the same driving range as the regular model’s standard-range version, which is 404 km.
The Kia Carens Clavis EV HTK+ is priced at ₹17,99,000 (ex-showroom). The Kia Carens Clavis EV HTM is priced at ₹18,19,000 (ex-showroom). Since the complete features, full specs, and pricing details are already available, we can expect the launch in the market very soon.
