The Volvo EX30 is going to be the starting model in the brand’s electric lineup once it launches. It’s expected that it’ll come with a 69 kWh battery pack.
Volvo is getting ready to launch the updated version of the XC60 in India on August 1, 2025. As per an exclusive update, the smaller EX30 is also set to arrive in India around the same time, in August itself. Recently, a test model of the EX30, fully covered in camouflage, was spotted being tested on public roads. The car, which slots below the EC40 and EX40 in Volvo’s global EV lineup, is going to be the brand’s most compact electric SUV once it hits the market.
To keep the pricing competitive, Volvo might go for local assembly, and the expected price could be just under Rs. 45 lakh (ex-showroom). The EX30 uses Volvo’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform and is already available in many countries abroad, where it has been getting positive feedback. In India, Volvo might stick to offering just the 69 kWh NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery pack option.
This battery pack will be available in both rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive variants, delivering a top power output of up to 427 bhp. It offers an official driving range of about 474 km on a single charge. The design features of the EX30 clearly show some connection to the bigger EX90. The key design highlights include slim LED headlamps, the well-known Thor’s Hammer daytime running lights, and pixel-style tail lamps.

The overall shape looks small and upright, giving it a neat, compact feel. Instead of replacing any existing model, the EX30 will come in as a fresh option, serving as Volvo’s electric entry-level vehicle. It will compete with cars like the BMW iX1, Hyundai Ioniq 5, the new BYD Sealion 7, Kia EV6, and others.
Inside, the small electric crossover is likely to stick to Volvo’s typical simple design, using recycled materials and focusing a lot on tech features. The cabin will have a vertically placed 12.3-inch screen set high on the dashboard, featuring Volvo’s Google-integrated system.
