BMW has dropped a special 50 Jahre Edition of the 3 Series in India. It comes in two versions – the 330Li M Sport and the M340i. Only 50 units of each will be made, so yeah, pretty limited stuff.
This is BMW India’s way of celebrating 50 years of the 3 Series, which btw is one of their most famous cars world over. Both are being assembled at BMW’s Chennai plant, but still, the number stays capped at just 50 per trim. Exclusivity factor sorted.
The cars are up for grabs only via BMW’s online shop. Price wise, the 330Li M Sport 50 Jahre Edition is ₹64 lakh ex-showroom, while the M340i costs ₹76.90 lakh ex-showroom. These prices already include GST and cess, but don’t cover insurance, road tax, RTO charges etc. so expect the on-road to be higher.
Looks wise, the 330Li M Sport 50 Jahre Edition has got sportier bits like M high-gloss shadow line, some carbon fibre touch, and a laser-engraved “1/50” badge stuck on the B-pillar. Inside the cabin, you get a head-up display with 3D nav, carbon inserts, power seats and a big curved screen that runs iDrive 8.5.
Under the hood sits a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol motor, putting out 258 hp and 400 Nm. It can do 0-100 kmph in around 6.2 seconds, which is quick enough for a luxury sedan.
The M340i 50 Jahre Edition is of course the more hardcore one. It gets M-specific design stuff – blacked out badges on the fender and rear, different hubcaps and laser markings to show off exclusivity. Extra goodies include an M key fob, steering wheel with a red stripe at the top, carbon trim and 19-inch Jet Black alloys matched with red brake calipers.
Powering it is a 3.0-litre straight-six turbo petrol. Numbers? 374 hp and 500 Nm. That’s why it can smash the 0–100 run in just 4.4 secs. On top, it packs BMW’s xDrive AWD, adaptive suspension, M Sport diff and bigger brakes. Inside, you get all the digital kit like BMW Live Cockpit Pro, 14.9-inch curved infotainment, 12.3-inch driver’s display and connected features.
Both editions also get exclusive paint shades and Vernasca leather seats. And if you buy the M340i 50 Jahre Edition, BMW throws in a 1:18 scale model of the classic BMW 3.0 CSL – nice little touch for collectors.
The BMW 3 Series first came out in 1975, replacing the 02 Series. Since then it has gone through 7 generations and still remains BMW’s best selling luxury model worldwide.
On the launch, Vikram Pawah, President and CEO of BMW Group India said: “For five decades and across seven generations, the BMW 3 Series has stood as the undisputed benchmark for driving pleasure, a true pioneer that created a new vehicle category and continues to be the best-selling premium automobile worldwide. The ‘50 Jahre’ Limited Editions of the BMW 3 Series Long Wheelbase and BMW M340i are our tribute to this heritage.”
