Kia Carens Clavis EV offers a driving range of around 490 km on a single charge and is available in four different variants.
Kia has started taking bookings for the Carens Clavis EV, which is the brand’s first electric vehicle to be made in India. This EV features a three-row seating setup and hits the market as the most affordable midsize electric MPV. Customers can choose from two battery pack options, with the company claiming a top range of 490 kilometres on a full charge.
We recently had the chance to drive the top-end variant in Bengaluru, where we also carried out our first drive review along with our standard 100 to 0 percent range test. The Carens Clavis EV comes in four trims: HTK Plus, HTX, HTX ER, and HTX Plus ER. When it comes to its market position, this EV steps into a segment that hasn’t seen much activity from popular mass-market carmakers yet.

Priced from ₹17.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the electric Carens Clavis carries a familiar design style that follows Kia’s “Opposites United” design philosophy. In terms of looks and build, it shares many elements with its petrol-powered version. For the powertrain, there are two lithium-ion battery options, with the bigger one having a capacity of 51.4 kWh.
The second battery option, with a capacity of 42 kWh, is placed below the larger one in the lineup. According to ARAI tests, this battery delivers a claimed range of 404 km on a single full charge. Even though the two batteries have different capacities, both support 100 kW DC fast charging, enabling the battery to go from 10% to 80% charge in about 39 minutes as claimed.

The Carens Clavis EV comes equipped with Level 2 ADAS technology as part of its safety features, offering 20 different autonomous driver assistance functions under this system. Along with that, Kia has included 18 more safety-related technologies. Buyers can choose from six color options: Glacier White Pearl, Gravity Gray, Aurora Black Pearl, Pewter Olive, Imperial Blue, and a matte-finish Ivory Silver.
The lower-end variants come with the smaller battery and a 132 hp motor, whereas the higher trims feature a more powerful 169 hp motor. However, both versions offer the same torque of 255 Nm. The steering wheel has paddle shifters that let you switch between four different levels of regenerative braking while driving. The Carens Clavis EV packs a lot of advanced technology, including a connected car system that provides up to 90 remote and in-car features.
