Nitin Gadkari New Car Rule 2025 – What’s Going On?
Bad news for all old car lovers! The Indian Government is now pushing hard to get rid of old vehicles, blaming them as a big reason for air pollution. And this time, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has brought a rule that will directly hit your pocket.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has changed the registration renewal cost for old vehicles. So if you own a car or bike that’s 20 years old or more, you will now pay double the fee to keep it on road.
Registration Renewal Cost – Old Cars & Bikes
Earlier the renewal fee was not too high, but from now onwards, it’s going to be a real burden for vintage car lovers.
- Four-Wheelers (20+ years) → Earlier ₹5,000 → Now ₹10,000
- Two-Wheelers (20+ years) → Earlier ₹1,000 → Now ₹2,000
- Vehicles 15–20 years old → No change in fee
So basically, if your car or bike has crossed 20 years, you will feel the pinch.
Why This New Rule?
The government’s point of view is simple – reduce air pollution and push people towards newer, less polluting vehicles. They believe old cars and bikes contribute a major chunk of emissions, and this rule will discourage people from keeping them.
But many car lovers, especially those who love classic machines, feel this is unfair. For them, an old car is not just a vehicle, it’s an emotion and heritage.
Is It Boon Or Bane?
Honestly, it depends on how you look at it:
- For the government, this is a step to fight air pollution and promote cleaner technology.
- For old vehicle owners, it feels like an unnecessary burden and a way to force them to sell or scrap their beloved cars.
So yeah, mixed opinions everywhere.
