Tesla Launching in India Soon

Tesla has been very keen to introduce its electric vehicles in India, which is the third biggest car market in the world. At the beginning of this year, Tesla chose the locations for its showrooms in two big cities — Mumbai and New Delhi. Based on information from industry insiders, we have managed to get an idea about the expected prices of the new Tesla electric vehicles. Tesla plans to launch the Model Y first, which is their basic or entry-level electric vehicle. The Model Y will come to India as an imported vehicle from Tesla’s factory in China. Earlier, there were talks that the Model Y might be priced quite reasonably, somewhere between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 25 lakh.

But since the Tesla Model Y will be brought in from China, the price might end up being on the higher side. According to industry insiders, Tesla has brought in five Model Y cars from China so far. The cost of a Model Y is around $31,988, which comes to approximately Rs 27.70 lakh. But this price also includes an import duty of 70%, which adds about Rs 21 lakh to the cost. So basically, the Tesla Model Y’s price in Mumbai (ex-showroom) will be close to Rs 48 lakh. This means the Model Y will go head-to-head with the BYD Sealion, as both come with almost the same price range.
