Tesla is ready to open its first experience centre in India on 15th July 2025. The centre, situated at Jio World Drive in Mumbai, will be open only for VIPs and business partners during the first week. From the following week, it will be accessible to the general public. Sources have confirmed that the American electric car brand will launch its second showroom in Delhi by the end of July 2025. The Tesla Model Y will be the first car from the company to be launched for sale in the Indian market. As expected, it will be brought in as a completely built unit from China.

Tesla is stepping into the Indian market at a pretty important moment, especially since its global sales have been going down lately. India’s automobile industry ranks as the third biggest in the world, just after China and the United States. The experience centre located at BKC in Mumbai will give potential buyers a clear idea about Tesla cars, including details on prices, different variants, and configuration choices.

Tesla’s Model Y Pre-Orders Start Next Week in India; Prices Likely Higher Due to Import Taxes

Tesla is set to begin accepting pre-orders for the Model Y starting next week, with the first deliveries expected by the end of August 2025. Some leaked papers show that the initial batch of rear-wheel-drive Model Y SUVs has already reached India from Tesla’s factory in China. To put it into perspective, the Tesla Model Y is the top-selling electric car globally, and this could be the main reason the company chose it as the first model to launch in India.

The Model Y coming from China has been priced at $32,270, which is roughly around Rs 28 lakh. But in India, it is expected to cost a lot more because of the 70 percent import duty applied to fully built electric cars priced under $40,000. Experts estimate that once all the additional taxes and fees are added, the price of the Tesla Model Y in India could end up being higher than its US price, which is $46,630 (about Rs 40 lakh).

Tesla Model Y: Packed with Features and Fast Charging, Coming Soon to India

The Tesla Model Y is a midsize electric SUV packed with many features like heated and ventilated seats, It also includes power-reclining second-row seats, a hands-free automatic trunk, a 15.4-inch central touchscreen for infotainment, an 8-inch touchscreen for passengers in the back, blind spot monitoring, and the ability to receive over-the-air (OTA) updates.

Tesla says the Model Y can gain up to 293 km of range with just 15 minutes of charging using their Supercharger network. But unlike in the US, where Tesla has more than 70,000 Superchargers, India currently does not have this kind of charging network. We’ve heard that Tesla plans to set up its Supercharger network in India gradually, rolling it out in phases over time.
